Do you have your 2014 Goals written yet?

Do you have your Goals for 2014 written down yet? If not my question to you is WHY NOT? Diana Scharf Hunt, an American author and time-management guru, said, “Goals are dreams with deadlines.” Andrew Carnegie said, “If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy, and inspires your hopes.” I also learned from Jack Canfield, who said, “In order to make a goal effective, it needs to answer two questions. How much and by when?”1 Each of these individuals has realized great success because they were specific in what they wanted, how they wanted it, why they wanted it, and when they wanted it.

It’s not enough to say, “I dream of writing a book one day,” or “I would like to be thinner,” or “I want to be successful.” You need the details. You have to know exactly where you are going so that you know how to get there. For example, you could say, “I want to lose 15 pounds,” but that’s not as effective as saying, “I will weigh 110 pounds by March 15, at 10:00 AM.” Habakkuk 2:2 doesn’t just say we need to write down the vision; it says we must also “make it plain.”

If your dream is to write a book, create the title of your book and figure out when you want to complete it. Then determine how many pages you have to write each day to meet that deadline. If you want to lose weight, decide how many pounds you will lose and what method will be most successful for your lifestyle and goals; then set a target date and begin changing your habits. Whatever your dream, calculate how many dollars you need, how many square feet it will take, how many miles you have to go, how much schooling it will require, or what research you need to do.

Most people hate deadlines. They hate the pressure and the anxiety of something hanging over their head. But without deadlines, nothing would ever get done. The truth is, deadlines are only stressful for procrastinators, those people who aren’t diligently working toward meeting them. Put a target date on your dreams and you will find that you are far less likely to let a day go by without reviewing your dream book and taking appropriate steps to reach your dreams.

Over the next month I will be doing a video series on goals and vision. What are you financial goals, family goals, fitness goals, fun goals, your personal goals. Just because you tried before and quit does not mean that you cant do not only try it this time but DO IT.
